I’ve been meaning to introduce you guys to Suzuya for the longest time, but never got around to it until now. Suzuya is a Japanese restaurant I’ve been going to for awhile now, and I just think it’s a little gem of a find.
Hot tip: I forgot how hard parking in Surry Hills can be – Suzuya is easily accessible from the light rail station. So avoid the trouble of finding a car park by just taking public transport instead.
Suzuya
Suzuya really is one of those places that gives you great value. The prices are great for the portion sizes and the quality of food.
But they also provide a lunch set menu and a dinner set menu that I always end up ordering along with a few other dishes they have.
It’s not the biggest restaurant in the world, with only a few tables at the front and a few small ones along the back near the kitchen. There’s nothing fancy about the decor, but the service is friendly and the food doesn’t disappoint. It’s just a great neighbourhood restaurant serving great food.
Lunch Set

I ordered the sashimi for starters and a pork katsu as my main. This comes with miso soup, agedashi tofu and rice was optional with my pork Katsu.
Most combinations are priced at only $19.9.
The sashimi was fresh and had a great selection of tuna, salmon and kingfish. The tofu was also really silky smooth and nicely seasoned.
The pork katsu was a good size and thickness. Super crispy and cooked really well – it’s not tough or dry at all.
So yeah, if you’re in the area or live nearby but never had a reason to step inside. This is the reason to go check Sazuya in Surry Hills out. (they also have a dinner set menu that’s under $40)
