Worth the car ride?

Five Guys have finally come to Australia and so I had to check it out for myself. It’s been years since I had a Five Guys burger, where I had my first one while travelling through Canada and the States.
Needless to say, I was pretty excited to eat it again on home turf.
Or at least, kinda.
Because Five Guys isn’t really located in Sydney. It’s a little out of way for most, located in Penrith. However the hour or so drive didn’t keep me away from my desperation to relive my North American travel memories.
Five Guys
There’s quite a number of parking spaces available around the area as there’s a lot of fast food chains nearby. But I do have to say the location of the first Five Guys in Australia was not where I had in mind.
I think none of us was thinking Penrith. (No offence Penrith)

What to expect:
One of the fun things about Five Guys is it’s simple menu that you can customise with their free toppings and extra requests.
Their secret menu.
However, unfortunately they weren’t doing secret menu items when I was there. Otherwise this review would have turned into a 3 part series. Easily.
So I pivoted on the spot and decided to get an item from each category instead. There was also no dine-in when I was there, however I’m sure that will change as Covid-19 improves in the future.
Things I ordered:
- Cheeseburger – $19 AUD
- Cheese dog – $14 AUD
- Fries – $5.90 AUD
- Grilled Cheese – $ 9 AUD
- Strawberry Milkshake – $9.90 AUD

I think the timing of Five Guys coming to Australia was a bit unfortunate, making dine-in not an option. The location instantly makes this a sort of thing you go to IF you just so happen to be nearby or passing through. But the big issue I had was the prices.
The prices were much more expensive than any of the Five Guys I had anywhere else. It was a bad burger, but considering everything, I probably won’t be going again anytime soon.
