Comfort Food

Cheesy tteokbokki

Anyone who has watched a single Korean drama will have seen the actors eating tteokbokki at a street stall late at night as they vent about their boss (that they will eventually fall in love with)

It’s Korean comfort food at it’s best. It’s carby, chewy, hot, sweet and spicy. It’s basically a comforting hug in a bite.

And it gets better when you put cheese on top! Dump a massive handful of cheddar and mozzarella on top to create a beautiful cheese pull sensation.

Serves 1 – 2

A small bowl of raw ttoekbokki
1 1/2 cups of water
2 table spoons of gochujang
1 table spoon of sugar
As much cheese as it takes to cover the top. (a bag of shredded cheddar and mozzarella)

DIRECTIONS

1. Get a pan and place it on medium heat. Pour your water in and dissolve your sugar and mix your Gochujang in as well.

2. As your sauce starts to bubble a bit, put your ttoekbokki in, make sure they’re all seperated and stir around so they dont stick to the pan. let it cook for 10 mins with occasional stirring.

3. Preheat the oven at 150C as your ttoekbokki is cooking.

4. Once the sauce has thickened up a bit and the rice cakes look fatter – place a good layer of cheese on top and place the whole thing in the oven for 5min until you get the cheese bubbling.
